Georges Lecointe, The Voyage of the Belgica

Georges Lecointe (1869-1929) was a Belgian naval officer and scientist who served as captain of the Belgica and second-in-command of the first-ever international scientific expedition to Antarctica, in 1897-1899. In this work, Lecointe recounts with courage, compassion and humour the trials and tribulations of an expedition that narrowly escaped disaster, returning to Belgium with a rich haul of scientific observations.
