About George Tombs

Hi!

georgetombs1

I am a Montreal-based journalist, historian and translator, and frankly I am in love with both the English and French languages.

This website reflects my passionate interest in the environment, health and justice – and also my conviction that the web offers a fabulous opportunity for building communities and sharing positive approaches to the challenges we face.

I have worked for TV, radio, newsmagazines and newspapers, in both English and French, reporting first-hand on nature, climate change, disappearances, refugees, hostages, terrorists, aboriginal societies, desert nomads, slaves, spiritual leaders, Nobel-winning scientists, inventors, criminal trials and heads of government on six continents.

The key is to track down solid evidence, be a truthful witness, and stay positive.
My most recent book is an unauthorized biography of Conrad Black, Robber Baron: Lord Black of Crossharbour.

More books are on the way….

Do you know something about Montreal? I do a lot of translation here, which comes naturally since I live and breathe in two languages, switching back and forth all day long.

In the months to come, for your reading, listening and viewing pleasure, I will be posting blogs in English and French, podcasts, e-books I have translated into English, poetry in French, and content from a film I am currently producing – on navigating in the polar seas, both Arctic and Antarctic.

Like Satchmo used to sing, What a Wonderful World.

Anyway, here’s to hoping life is smiling upon you! Drop me a line when you have a chance!
Best, George Tombs
